Observation is one the most important tools in teaching process especially for teachers. Due to observation we can easily notice what is going well and successfully plan the next steps and lessons. For example, while teaching vocabulary I use lots of games an activities. I implement them in every class, with different class one and the same activity goes differently. In this case observation helps me greatly to see the advantages and effectiveness of the activity I use. When I reflect on the drawbacks of the activities and methods I try to improve these ddrawbacks. So, all above mentioned strategies are helpful in teaching process.

Observing to Improve: A Reflective Approach to Teaching
Systematic observation has transformed the way I approach teaching, helping me differentiate between perception and reality in the classroom. Initially, I assumed that students who didn’t participate were simply not interested. However, after closely observing their body language and engagement during group work, I realized that many were hesitant due to a fear of making mistakes, not a lack of motivation. This insight led me to incorporate more low-stakes speaking activities, where students could practice without pressure, gradually building confidence.

After each lesson, I reflect on student reactions and participation levels, asking: Did they understand the concept? Were the activities engaging? This has led me to incorporate more interactive methods, such as storytelling, real-world case studies, and group discussions.

For instance, when teaching grammar to students in non-language majors, my initial impression was that they struggled due to a lack of interest. However, systematic observation revealed that many simply needed more structured, real-life examples to connect grammar rules with practical use. By adjusting my approach and integrating context-based learning, I noticed a significant improvement in engagement.

Systematic observation is a powerful tool for educators, allowing us to refine teaching methods, challenge assumptions, and create a more effective learning environment. Reflecting on my own experience, I’ve found that Identifying Patterns Beyond First Impressions and Encouraging Reflective Teaching Practices have been particularly impactful.
