Assessment for Learning plays a key role in helping students take ownership of their progress. When learners are involved in understanding success criteria, checking their own work, and giving simple feedback to peers, they become more active, motivated, and aware of their strengths and areas for improvement.
We chose the theme “Enhancing L2 Learners’ Motivation through Peer and Self-Assessment” because our 5th-grade students often rely fully on the teacher and show limited interest in evaluating their work. This lowers motivation and slows their development as independent learners. After studying new methods through the British Council course, we wanted to explore whether peer and self-assessment could make our lessons more engaging and help students build confidence and responsibility.
